1,000 Views (A Thank-You Post)

No politics today; just a thank-you note to everyone who's been reading and following along. All one thousand of you.

First, huge thanks to Harry Enten at FiveThirtyEight, Brendan Nyhan at Dartmouth College, and The Monkey Cage at The Washington Post for tweeting or re-tweeting out the blog/articles. Another thanks to whoever it was that sent our post on names to Mark Blumenthal at The Huffington Post (if it was Harry, Prof. Nyhan, or the folks at The Monkey Cage, double thanks to you). We have huge spikes in viewership from all of them, and I'd guess that the majority of you readers have come here because they told you to. In particular, Prof. Nyhan's input was extremely helpful when we were getting started. So, thanks to all of them.

Now some fun facts that you probably think it's kind of creepy that I know (it shows up in my Blogger dashboard; it's not my fault):

Almost half our page views were on Chrome, and despite the overwhelming majority (92%) of views being from the United States, the viewership looks nothing like American browser usage:

Actually, now that I look at this, that 12.1% iPhone statistic looks highly suspicious. I combined the iPhone and Safari Mobile statistics together, but I refuse to believe that 1 in 8 Americans have iPhones.

In any case, a quick browse through StatCounter shows that our readership looks a lot more like Iceland rather than the US, of all places:

The reason it doesn't match up with any country, including the US, is because the majority of you changed your browsers from Internet Explorer. (Myself, I'm typing this on Firefox.) Also, about 4 in 10 of you didn't have IE to begin with since you have Macs, which is itself a ridiculously large percentage, especially since the percentage of you who are using Windows is actually slightly less. This means that most of you are 1) probably college students or 2) definitely college students.

We also have one view from the People's Republic, which I thought would've blocked us out with that Great Firewall of theirs, unless it's coming through www.google.hk or something. Otherwise, I'm glad to hear that someone in China enjoys this stuff enough to go through FreeGate to read it. Or they got here by accident. Which is fine too.

Finally, ein groβes Dankeschön an unsere deutschen Leserschaft, since you guys are our second-biggest audience outside of the U.S. (My friend at Cal Poly tells me this is a correct German translation. Please take it up with Will Peischel if I've said anything offensive by accident.)

Thanks again, and keep reading!
